NORTH FORK

I was in my favorite outdoor store (now REI), Appalachian Outfitters and was talking to the owner. Of course I was there to buy gear but also wanted to talk to Bob about signing up for a store trip. Bob had a 15 passenger van he used to take customers on overnight to week long trips. All you had to do was sign up before the trip was full and you were good to go. Bob said that we should sign up for the 3 1/2 day North Fork Mountain trip. I am glad we did. Looking back, this is the trip where I really fell in love with backpacking. The trail follows the ridge line for 24 miles and you camp on the edge of cliffs. We have returned several times so the pictures below will be from several trips. Here is a link to a more in depth trail description and mileage. We always hike South to North

This is the ridgeline you follow for most of the hike
This tree was hanging on the edge but eventually lost it’s battle with gravity and was gone on our last trip
Seneca Rocks, very popular place for climbers
Leann on the cliffs, waiting for sunset
The van parked by Seneca Rocks, maybe this is where Leann got her interest in “BIG VANS”
