CHUCK KEIPER

Chuck Keiper trail in North Central Pennsylvania is a great place to check your fitness level. There are lots of climbs and most of them are really steep. You will know at the end of a trip here if you need to start doing harder trails. There are 2 loops East and West and we have done them both. If you want to get away from other hikers this is the place to be. We usually don’t see other hikers here, maybe they are smarter than us. Here is a great description of the trail in PA Hikes:

We completed the east loop 3 times and the west loop once. The west loop is 33 miles and we took 2 days to complete, the first day was 20 miles, maybe that is why we only did it once.

EAST LOOP

24.2 miles and 4,282 feet of elevation gain

WEST LOOP

32.4 miles and 5,180 feet of elevation gain. It’s a grind
First trip to Keiper we hiked in at night and got soaked
View from the parking lot off Route 44.
Nice meadow on the East Loop
