CHICKAMAUGA NMP

I am a history buff and Leann is turning into one. She is now just as interested in seeing historic sites as I am. Maybe she is just a supportive wife. I think her perspective changed after visiting Pearl Harbor. I will never forget our visit there and the respect exhibited by visitors. It is a very somber place.

One of my favorite quotes.

Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

George Santayana, The Life of Reason, 1905. From the series Great Ideas of Western Man.

At Chickamauga the Confederacy may have won the battle but lost the war. They lost 20% of their forces to win this battle. The South could not win a war of attrition, the North had too many resources.

In the fog of war Rosecrans thought he had a breach in his line when he didn’t. In his effort to fix this imagined breach he created a real one. The confederates poured through causing chaos in the Union lines. Rosecrans was driven from the field.
