I was skeptical when the GPS sent us down a road that looked like a driveway. I was even more skeptical when it said you have arrived and it looked like we were behind somebody’s garage. We looked to the left and saw the least impressive National Monument sign we have ever seen.

There was slightly better sign a few yards down the trail.

Yucca House National Monument preserves a large, unexcavated Ancestral Puebloan community (1150-1300 AD). It offers a rare glimpse into a vast, untouched archaeological site with potentially hundreds of rooms and kivas. It is largely undeveloped and protected for future study, making it a significant, hidden gem in the National Park System.

Yucca House is one of the largest archaeological sites in Southwest Colorado, featuring a massive complex with an estimated 600 rooms and 100 kivas all built around a vital spring. We are so use to seeing the reconstructed rooms and kiva’s that is was interesting to see something untouched.

HAPPY TRAILS, STEVE
