NORTH COUNTRY TRAIL JUNE 2022

The weather was looking really good for the upcoming weekend. Since we have become fair weather backpackers we decided to head to our home away from home for the weekend: Allegheny National Forest. Besides what else would we do for our 39th anniversary?

We started in Dunham Siding and took the North Country Trail south to Minister Creek. We stayed on the North Country Trail through Minster and followed the trail east up the side of the valley, crossed Minster Road and planned to meet our friends and camp in this section of the trail. We did not see another backpacker until we hooked up with our friends Ed and Anita. These days that is a minor miracle. We did talk to 2 crew trails and thanked them for their efforts.

We use to camp at this spot near Triple Forks with our girls, I had to take a picture
Sorry but Ii love the sound of water (even trickles) running over rocks.
The forest is very lush after all of the rain.
This is the first time we camped on this section of the North Country trail, this was a nice spot.
Chilling: a man and his dog. Ed and Cody
Our “restaurant” of choice for our 39th anniversary dinner.

We did have an interesting encounter in the middle of the night. About 3:00 am, Leann let out a little scream and said a mouse had run over her head. We turned on our headlights to try and find the little bastard. We could hear it running outside, Leann realized she must have had her head against the tent wall and it felt like it was on her but it wasn’t. Sammy slept through the whole thing.

Allegheny should be called a National Fern Forest, there are millions of them.
Leann and Sammy on the trail, this is before the descent into Minister Valley.

Wonder where we will be for number 40?
