INDIANA DUNES

I was scheduled to provide product training for a new distributor in Indiana. The class was on a Friday so Leann went with me and after the training we drove to Michigan City to meet the Castors.

Our ultimate destination was the newest National Park: Indiana Dunes established on February 15, 2019. Efforts to make the area a national park date back to 1916, when Stephen Mather, the first director of the National Park Service, began advocating for the creation of the “Sand Dunes National Park”

Indiana Dunes State Park was established in 1926. In 1966, it gained protection from the National Park Service when it was designated as a national lakeshore. The Indiana Dunes are considered one of the most biodiverse areas in North America, with more plant and animal species than the entire state of Hawaii. That is hard to believe but I read it on the internet so it must be true.

Since national park status was just announced they only had a temporary sign
Heading through the dunes down to the lake
On the road again with our travelling buddies. We laughed about this picture, look to the right: nuclear power plant, look to the left: Gary, Indiana. Not exactly Glacier Bay but it is a National Park.

Probably not the most spectacular of national parks but it’s on the list so we had to go.

1 to go: North Cascades in Washington
