Since we travel all over the country seeing national park sites, we decided to see the one’s in our backyard.

This is at the entrance to the site. I assumed there would be a display for each first lady in order. I was wrong.

I anticipated learning about each first lady but this was one of the few displays. Apparently most of the site is a library that is not open to the public. I was disappointed. I am glad we didn’t take 3 days to get here.

Part of the historic site is the Saxton-McKinley House. This is the childhood home of Ida Saxton. She became a first lady when William McKinley became the 25th president in 1897. Ida led a tragic life: both of her daughters died, her brother was murdered and her husband was assassinated on September 14, 1901.

THANKS FOR VISITING, STEVE
