PYMATUNING STATE PARK

The Castor’s asked if we wanted to join them for kayaking and fireworks at Pymatuning State park, why not. I have not been here since I was 12 and visited with my best friend and his family. My two memories from long ago: ducks walking on fish and a bear on a platform that pulled a rope to get food people put in his can.

Leann suggested we get there early and have a picnic, Ok maybe it was not a suggestion. We took the Weber Q and grilled burgers. Leann made baked beans, salad and killer brownies, nice.
#1: picnic spot and where we launched the kayaks. #2: We backed our boats and beached them at this spot on Ackerman Island. #3: approximately where they set off the fireworks, we had front row seats from the cockpits of our kayaks.
Boats are ready to go. There where quite a few people at the park when we got there but a lot more kept arriving as night approached.
Fortunately the wind died down and it was a beautiful night on the water.
Waiting for sunset and the show to begin.
Still waiting but the sunset was not too bad.
This is the only way to see fireworks, thanks Castors.

We brought headlights and turned them on after show so we could see where to go and pontoon boats would not run us over.. I have never seen so many bugs in my life. I turned off my light and realized if I used the green light and not white, they left me alone. Leann was smarter she put on her bug net.

The next issue was the parking lot, it was packed and nobody was moving. We weren’t too worried since we still had to load the kayaks, which is always a pain. By the time we got everything loaded east bound traffic was moving but west bound was stuck. We decided to go east bound which was a little out of the way but a lot faster.

I would do this again in a heartbeat but not next year. We are doing Leann’s dream trip, stay tuned.
