OTTER CREEK

If you like rhododendron choked creeks with boulders, waterfalls and great swimming holes Otter Creek is the place to be. I like all of those so I really like Otter Creek in the MNF.

My first trip here was a “GUYS” trip with 2 co-workers. We checked the weather and there was zero percent chance of rain for the weekend. The other “GUYS” did not even bother with rain coats, I was not that trusting so I took mine but left the rain pants at home. This was probably the worse weather forecast ever, it rained for 12 straight hours.
The only issue with lots of rain at Otter Creek: are you on the same side of the river as your car? We were not and there was no way we could cross this on day 2 of a 3 day trip. We looked at maps and could potentially get out by bushwhacking up the to the ridge. This may have been the worse hiking experience ever. Bushwhacking with full packs through rhododendrons, we got no progress after 2 hours of work and just camped by the creek where we started. We stuck a stick in the river and just checked water level to see if it was dropping, it was.
Still deep but we were able to get out the next day.
Day 1 of a return visit to the creek.
Nice size rattlesnake
The Whytes on the overlook, the rattlesnake was about 20 feet below us
One of my favorite combination boulders and running water

We drove down Friday night and planned to hike in a short distance and camp. The weather was terrible so we just backed up our vehicles opened the hatches,, sat in the back and just talked.
We just crossed Otter Creek, the water level was the lowest we have seen it.
It was hot, the water was cool so we went swimming
