KICKPAOO CAVERN SP

We hit a rest stop on the way to Kickapoo Caverns and there were cats everywhere.

We have seen this many times, a private citizen donates their land to start a state park. There are 20 known caves in the park. The 2 largest are Kickapoo Cavern and Stuart Bat Cave. For $10 you can take a 3 hour tour of Kickapoo Cavern. We booked this and I had a terrible cold and could not go. Leann said it is worth going back for another visit. The cave is undeveloped (no lights, no paths) and the tour is rated as rugged

Stuart Bat Cave

Cave Swallows build their nests near the entrance to the cave.

Mexican Free-tailed bats roost deep in the cave. Up to a million of them stay here from spring to fall. There is a viewing area where you can watch them leave at dusk and return in the morning. We went twice but did not see the mass exit we were hoping for.

Leann liked this bird blind near the campground.
