RAPTOR HALLOW

Leann went to a talk by Raptor Hallow trainers at our local park. We then saw them at a festival in Kent where they showed a Peregrine Falcon.

Those are some serious talons.

Peregrine Falcon: the fastest animal on the planet. The fastest measured speed of a Peregrine Falcon is 242 mph. They reach this speed by climbing high then going into a steep dive to capture their prey which is mainly other birds. They have a wing span up to 43 inches and can weigh up to 56 ounces.

We had a nice talk with the employees and decided to make a visit.

Their Mission:

Raptor Hallow Sanctuary’s mission is to protect the earth’s biodiversity, and to secure the future of all bird of prey species in their natural habitats. We work to achieve our mission through community engagement, education, and conservation. As humans, we are the only species with the ability to save our planet.

Their Vision:

Advance the well-being of wildlife through education to inspire those to take action in conservation.

Butterfly house, there was a wide range of species. I wanted to take more pictures but they would not hold still. Another problem, I am not known as a patient person.

Monarch Butterfly

Aviary was a mix of native and non native species. These birds are rescues and will be used for education and not returned to the wild.

Woven: this was an art exhibit where branches were woven together to create hallways and rooms.

Flights of Wonder Show.

Trained Owls and Bald Eagles would fly from the stage to behind the audience.

Great Horned Owl
It was really cool to have them fly right over your head
Grey Crowned Crane, native of South Africa. This one walked around the audience,
Another day, another boardwalk.

What a great way to spend an afternoon.

HAPPY TRAILS, STEVE
