ATLANTIC PUFFINS

  • Interesting facts
    • Iceland is home to 60% of the global population
    • 8 to 10 million call Iceland home
    • They arrive in April to breed and leave in August
    • The rest of the year they spend at sea
    • They live 20 to 25 years old

Thanks to Anita for the video

After seeing the Puffins, Anita wrote this poem. I liked it and asked if I could share it with others. She was kind enough to say yes.

Puffins by Anita Castor

Travelling around Iceland
Looking for birds along the way
We stopped at Reynisfjara (the black sand beach)
To see what we may
We climbed up to the overlook
The wind and rain were on cue
But despite the fog and mist
We were still able to see the view
Heading over to the next overlook
And to our great surprise
We spied the Puffins nesting
On a little cliff rise
We watched them for a period
So adorable as they waddled about
Cute tuxedoes, orange bills and feet
From their nest holes, in and out
I could have watched for hours
But the weather played it’s role
So back to the car we hurried
Grateful for those moments we stole
Soon the Puffins will be leaving
For their winter homes they will sojourn
So lucky to have observed a small glimpse of their lives
Until springtime, when they again return

THANKS ANITA
