ARCHES & CAPITOL REEF

We decided to take a long weekend trip to Utah. We had not been to Utah for a long time and thought it would good to go and do a type A five day blitz of the parks. We flew into Salt Lake City, rented a car and headed to Goblin Valley State Park. Utah state parks would be national parks in any other state

Oh My!
Ed loves yurts, this looks like a nice location to spend a few days

We booked a hotel in Green River and used that for our basecamp on this trip: lots of driving and lots of hiking. Next stop was Arches National Park which was #35 on our national park journey but we did not know it at the time.

This trail was smooth as a sidewalk
I really like petroglyphs, would love to have an imitation one in the house
We have done a lot of hiking on exposed trails. This section of the trail was the most nervous I have ever been. The term is slick rock, the sand lying on top of the rock provides for poor footing. If you slip to the right you will not stop until you hit the bottom. I was very happy when we got through this.
Balanced rock, when will gravity win?

Next stop was Dead Horse point State Park. We visited here with the girls and decided to go back. I can’t imagine a prettier state park.

Dead Horse Point 2000 feet above the Colorado River
The canyon walls are pretty steep

Next stop a return trip to Canyon Lands National Park

White Rim trail, this area is famous with mountain bikers. Maybe we will go back and try it with our gravel bikes. if they get in stock so we can actually buy them
More slick rock but not as far to fall
Poe anyone?
You could walk across this arch, thought about it until I saw what was underneath.
The view under the arch, long way to the bottom

Next stop Capitol Reef National Park and number 36 on our journey.

The Castors, our companions on many, many trips.
Aliens?
People headed west carved their names in the rock
Nice waterfall to end the trip.

This was another great visit to the land of red rock and blue sky.
