INTRO TO BACKPACKING

Many people in our meetup group wanted to try backpacking. I decided to do an intro to backpacking class followed by overnight trips for those that attended. I took most of my gear and set it up in the CVNP shelter. I discussed what I use and the other options. It was a lot of fun.
I sent attendees some trip options. Some people picked Morrison and others picked Laurel Highland. Morrison trip was first.
Sun was shining but it was on the cold side of the spectrum.

LAUREL HIGHLAND TRAIL

This group that had more experienced hikers than beginners
This was our lunch spot in Seven Springs ski resort. The trail goes under the lifts and crosses one of the runs.
Blue Hole Creek, we got water here since we were not sure of water conditions at the camping area.
This is deluxe backpacking: pole to hang your food, shed in the back has firewood and there were even men and women latrines.
Water filtering party, everyone had a Sawyer filter.
Nothing like hiking to the sounds of gun fire
The beginners made it.

I tell everyone that wants to try backpacking to get gear as cheaply as they can for the first trip. They will either hate it or love it. If they hate it, they wasted a lot of money on gear. If they love it, they will be in the endless journey of updating/replacing gear. I speak from experience.
