ESTABLISHED NOVEMBER 16, 1907
533 ACRES

Gilla Cliffs is located within the larger Gila Wilderness, which spans 558,000 acres, and the broader Gila National Forest, which covers 3.3 million acres. Make sure you like driving on a long twisty road before visiting. The 2 closest towns are Silver City and Mimbres. Both of these are along NM-15. The drive will take you to 90 to 120 minutes due to the winding mountainous road.

The cliffs were inhabited by the Mogollon people from the late 1200’s to early 1300’s. During this time they built approximately 42 rooms and then left. This history of building followed by abandonment is a consistent theme in the Southwest.
