Leann wanted to take the kayaks on some of our trips in Blaze. We started looking at trailers that could carry 2 bikes and 2 kayaks.
- The two requirements:
- Made in the USA
- Torsion axle for a smooth ride
We read about a manufacturer that builds highly rated kayak trailers in North Carolina. We found a model that was perfect for our needs with a minor change. They make custom trailers so I thought this one change would not be a problem I called them and asked how much to leave off this part. They said they would check and call me back right away. I said call me back with a price and I will place an order. They finally called back after 3 weeks and had no clue they had ever talked to me. I explained again what I wanted, they said no problem and promised to call back. They never called back. My career was in sales, sales management and product management. How could this company still be in business?
I gave up and put the search on hold. Two years later Leann brings up the subject again. Just for laughs I called the company again and left a voice mail. I still have not heard back. I told Leann: I quit, your turn.
Leann found another trailer manufacturer in North Carolina that made a trailer that met our requirements. Even better they had a dealer 10 minutes from our house. We jumped in the car and 10 minutes later we were looking at the trailer. Twenty minutes later we were still looking since nobody asked us if we had any questions. Just so you know, we were the only customers in the store. Leann went looking for a sales person. She came back with one and he could answer zero questions about the trailer.
We left and I reached out to the manufacturer (Sylvan) with what happened. They apologized and said they do sell direct with an option to pick up our trailer at the factory. Hell yes, I love North Carolina. Sylvan’s customer service was amazing. They answered all of my questions (I had a few) quickly and completely. I highly recommended them to anyone that is into gear intensive activities.

In the front is a weatherproof storage box. My only issue with the trailer, you can’t lock the box.

The trailer fits 2 bikes and 2 kayaks with storage underneath

The trailer tracks really well, no need to make wide turns. I have to be careful and not forget it’s back there. Backing up is an adventure, the thing has a mind of it’s own. That is the nature of short trailers and I just need to practice with it.

HAPPY ADVENTURING, STEVE
