GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, SOUTH RIM 2026

ACRES: 1,217,403

TRAILS: 138

We have not been here for a long time and I was looking forward to a return trip.

The GPS kept changing our arrival time but I was not sure of the issue.

Delay identified: there was a long line of vehicles to get into the park. Post Covid the parks are a lot more crowded.

On previous trips with the girls we stayed in hotels, this is the first time we camped. Our first site was very sloped and the ranger was very nice when we wanted to move. This is the second site which is more level and farther from the access road.

I will never forget the first time we saw the canyon. It is so massive you lose perspective, it did not look real to either of us.

Bright Angel Trail switchbacks, we will be on these the next day.

Hiking into the canyon is called a mountain in reverse, you go down first and then have to hike up to finish. We did not go all the way to the river.

We did the hike to 3 mile with the girls, our destination on this hike was Havasu Gardens. This was previously called Indian Gardens but was renamed for obvious reasons.

We got to the gardens and were disappointed. There was crap everywhere, apparently they are replacing a major water line and we had a nice view of their equipment.

Almost back to the top.

HAPPY TRAILS, STEVE
