We did chores on the way to Kartchner Caverns: laundry, groceries and I was able to get the first layer of dirt off Blaze.

COTTONWOOD SADDLE TRAIL

We passed a family of 4 and the father made a comment that they stopped a lot to take pictures. I don’t think he liked being passed by a couple of old farts.

Angel wings?

CAVERNS BIG ROOM TOUR
There are 4 tours available at Kartchner: big room, rotunda, helmet & headlamp and the photo tour. The only tour with available spots was the big room so we booked that one.
We were not allowed to take pictures (only on the photo tour) so I do not have anything to show.
The story of the cave’s discovery and protection is a good one.
Kartchner Caverns was discovered in November 1974 by two amateur cavers, Gary Tenen and Randy Tufts They followed a warm breeze from a small opening at the base of the Whetstone Mountains, discovering stunning formations inside. They kept the discovery secret for years to protect the fragile cave, eventually working with the landowners (the Kartchner family) and the state to acquire and preserve it. It opened as a state park in 1999.
We will be back.
