

We visited here again to see if we could spot the elusive Prairie Chicken. Nope, we are 0 for 2. The Prairie Chicken’s habitat is the coastal prairie that once spanned 6,000,000 acres. The refuge of 10,541 acres is one of the largest remnants of this ecosystem. The loss of habitat resulted in the Prairie Chicken becoming one of the most endangered birds in North America. Estimates put the number of birds remaining at 500,000.
Interesting that they have a Bison image at the Chicken refuge.

Since we can’t seem to find these, I grabbed a picture from the web.

Maybe this is another reason they are hard to find.
