BIG THICKET NATIONAL PRESERVE

Big Thicket is America’s first national preserve and was established in 1974. National Preserves are less protected than National Parks since hunting, mining and fuel extraction are allowed.

There are 15 separate sections that make up the preserve. These vary from 552 to 24,828 acres.

There are 6 waterway corridor units, this would be a great place to have the kayaks as long as we didn’t get lost.
