High Island is a hot spot for birding and Leann was excited to visit.

I think we hit all of the sections, the Smith Oaks Bird Sanctuary was the highlight.

Roseate Spoonbill, they are spectacular. They were almost hunted to extinction because of their colorful feathers. They get their pink coloring from their food source which is crustaceans and other aquatic invertebrates.

This was a very nice elevated walkway. Apparently the place is packed with people during migration. We visited early in the season so there were not many people.
