The Mountain Meadows Massacre began on September 7, 1857 when the Baker–Fancher wagon train was attacked, and culminated in the mass slaughter of at least 120 people on September 11, 1857.
The events took place in the remote valley of Mountain Meadows in the Utah Territory.. Mormon militiamen along with Paiute allies, carried out the attack. Only seventeen children, all aged six or under, were spared.
When we visited this beautiful meadow it was hard to understand the horrors that occurred here. Words fail me: I will just let the plaques do the talking.
