BUFFALO NATIONAL RIVER

We planned a trip to Churchill Canada to see polar bears (Leann’s choice). This trip also included a 2 day train trip staying in a sleeper car, damn COVID. Leann likes to kayak so I suggested we go to the Buffalo River in Arkansas, she liked the idea. We rented kayaks from Wild Bill Outfitters in Yellville, Arkansas. We met the drivers at the put in and left our car. We paddled 9 miles and the shuttle was waiting for us. Leann and I were cold, and wet. The driver had the heat on high and got a good tip. We saw people camping and thought it would be nice to go back and do a multi day trip

Getting ready to launch, it was cold and we got soaked using the sit on top kayaks.
Good sign at the start of the trip
This bridge was underwater during one of the bigger floods, 41 feet
There was not one house on the river so you really got the wilderness experience
We saw a few other kayakers and some people camping, we plan on going back for a 2 day trip.
I bet this place is packed in warmer weather
Leann doing what she loves
Leann loves to kayak.
There are quite a few trails in the park so we traded our paddles for boots. This cabin belonged to the last person that lived in the park. She was 88 when the park service forced her out of the only place she ever lived. She died four months later.
The weather in Arkansas was bad and getting worse, mid 30’s, rain and wind. The absolute worse weather to be outside. At that point we were looking for a place that had good weather. Turns out Houston was 70 degrees and sunny, called my sisters and they said come on down.
