ROCKHOUND STATE PARK

ACRES: 1.100

TRAILS: 4

We could see a couple in a golf cart headed our way as we drove toward the campground. I stopped and said hello. They said welcome to Rockhound and asked for our campsite number. They said follow us and we will show you the way. We did and then they asked if we needed help backing up, nope. They were very nice.

Prickly Pear Cactus

We did not leap.

Where’s Leann?

We read that Ibex could be seen on this trail, we crossed our fingers. We did not see any and neither did the hunters we had a conversation with.

Ibex were introduced to New Mexico in the early 1970s by the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish to establish a new big-game hunting species. The animals thrived leading to the first hunt in 1974. I am not a hunter and usually do not have any issues with hunters that eat what they shoot. My opinion, trophy hunters are just ass holes.

Here is an Ibex which is a member of the goat family.

The two constants on our visits to New Mexico: wind and dust.

HAPPY TRAILS, STEVE
