WHITE MOUNTAINS

Leann and I fell in love with hiking during our first trip to the White Mountains. This is also the area I learned to enjoy camping. I did not come from a family of campers (we liked hotels) but Moose Brook State Park with it’s large quiet campsites and proximity to the White Mountains changed my mine.

We liked this area so much we have been back three additional times. I decided to lump these trips into one page

1985

I know it’s cheating but we drove to the top of Mount Washington. In the years since we have hiked up many mountains but I have a rule, I do not spend hours hiking up a mountain if there is a road to the top.
We thought this sign was funny
Not only is there a road to the top you can also ride the cog railroad.
Leann was trying to splash me by throwing rocks, there is one on the way in this picture. You can see it a few feet above her head.
Lost river, this was a short but fun hike

This is the old man of the mountain made famous by a quote from Daniel Webster: “Men hang out their signs indicative of their respective trades; shoemakers hang out a gigantic shoe; jewelers a monster watch, and the dentist hangs out a gold tooth; but up in the Mountains of New Hampshire, God Almighty has hung out a sign to show that there He makes men.”

Julie and Steve
Looking back I wish I had done a better job of keeping notes of where we visited. I have no idea where this is other than the White Mountains.
3+ girls, Jamie is on the way. We camped on this trip and Leann was not very comfortable and the tent leaked other than that we had a great time
Our first road trip that included camping, many more to come
Jennifer, so cute

1999

Moose Brook State Park, it is a family favorite.
We decided to hike up Mount Jefferson, OK the parentals decided to hike up Mount Jefferson
On the hike to Mount Jefferson, Jamie uttered the immortal words: I DON’T WANT TO DIE! We were on a steep, rocky section of trail. Julie who is the family monkey was rock hopping from boulder to boulder and hit her head. She was fine but Jamie had reached her limit. We decided it might be time to turn back.

Lowe’s Bald Spot
We headed to Maine and camped at Baxter State Park, this is the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail. We didn’t get a picture but we saw a black bear with two cubs crossing the road
We did a hike to this creek
