NIMISILLA RESERVOIR

One of our MeetUp groups posted a weekend trip to Nimisilla Reservoir. It sounded like fun and we have not had Blaze out for awhile so we decided to join.

I was not expecting much but the camp sites were very nice for a metro park.
The reservoir is 825 acres and is one of the 13 bodies of water that make up the Portage Lakes. Unlike the other Portage Lakes, Nimisilla is electric motors only. It was nice not listening to jet skis.
It started raining after dinner. It was not too bad when I took the picture but that changed quickly. Most people headed back to their tents or cars when the storm came through. Three of us hung out in our shelter until the storm passed. Only problem, we did not have any beer with us.
Saturday morning was beautiful so we took out the kayaks.
This is Bird Island. I nicknamed it Bird Poop Island. It is home to a number of Double-crested Cormorants. Their guano is acidic and can change soil chemistry, killing ground vegetation and damaging nesting trees.
Osprey nest, we heard them calling most of the time we were on the water.
I liked the way water beaded on the Lilly Pads. I touched one and it felt rubbery.
Preparing for more bad weather.
The fire kept going through the Saturday dinner deluge. The weather cleared after dinner so we could enjoy the fire.
Too much fun.

This is an annual event for the Wadsworth Adventurers group. The weather did not cooperate but everybody seemed to have a good time.

HAPPY TRAILS, STEVE
