GUNNUHVER THERMAL AREA

The name Gunnuhver comes from the legend of a female ghost named Guðrún, or Gunna, who was said to have been trapped in the hot springs by a priest. Gunna is a vengeful female ghost who is said to haunt the area.

Gunnuhver has steam vents, mud pots, and hot springs.

This is the view from the Reykjanes Lighthouse.

Apparently there use to be a boardwalk here, mother nature said NO!

I thought the design of the Geo thermal plant was interesting. Geo thermal produces 30% of the electricity and 85% of the heating requirements in Iceland. Both houses we stayed in used geo thermal and the heat was instantaneous and hot through the radiators.
