Leann read that a Connecticut Warbler was spotted on the towpath trail near lock 34 in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. She has never seen this species so guess what we did?
Connecticut Warblers are difficult to spot. They spend most of their time foraging on the ground in dense vegetation. Birders celebrate adding this bird to their life list. Our plan was to listen for one since they are avid singers, then see if we could find it.
We hiked the towpath trail from Red Lock to Brecksville Station, then a combination of trail to Ottawa Point for lunch then the Buckeye Trail back to our car.
This is the towpath trail which is very popular for bikers on the weekend.

We heard a lot of birds on the first part of the hike but not the one we were hoping for. It was a beautiful day to be outside so no complaints. Here is the Merlin list from the first part of our hike:

Multiflora rose is a prolific and invasive shrub.

Cuyahoga River

This is the canal that runs by the towpath

The Buckeye Trail at 1,444 miles is the longest loop hike in the the country.

Ottawa Point: our lunch spot, we had the place to ourselves.

This is the historic railroad that runs through the park. I can’t believe we have not taken one of the trips.
