We had not read anything about this park before arriving. Maybe we should have. I plugged the destination into Google Maps and followed directions until I heard the magic words: you have arrived. The only problem, there was absolutely nothing there.

We GOOGLED the park and the mystery was solved.

Hohokam Pima National Monument was established to protect the Snaketown archeological site, a major Hohokam village. It was never opened to the public. It was backfilled after excavations to protect it, and remains on private, tribal land and is closed to visitors. Artifacts are displayed at the Huhugam Heritage Center. I felt bad about being there after we read this information. We did not see any signs about private or tribal land, we would have stopped.

CONFUSED BY THE PAST, STEVE
