BIG BEND RANCH STATE PARK

ACRES: 300

HIKES: 24

This was on our list of potential places to stop. Leann called the visitor center after we left the national park and they had sites available. They had an interesting way of booking. You made the reservation but a site was not assigned. You went to the campground and picked any site you liked that was empty. We debated about the open sites and finally picked this one. I am not a fan of the dirt but it was private.

We heard about this trail from another neighbor at Big bend National park. He said it was closed but would not elaborate. We decided to check it out.

Our neighbor was right, the trail was closed.

We could have gotten down this section but not so sure we could get back up since it was steep and very smooth. We obeyed the sign.

Leann wanted to do the road walk across from the campground, smooth walking with nice views

Houston, we have a problem. We did not know what to make of this and talked to the ranger. Apparently somebody dumped an old cement mixer and painted it to resemble a NASA capsule.

Apparently several movies were filmed in the area.

One of the movie sets is still standing.

The campsite we wanted was now empty so we grabbed it and had a nice view of the Rio Grande.

HAPPY TRAILS, STEVE
