Visiting the oldest city in the US (ST. Augustine) was on my list. Visiting a National Monument was the reason for our visit.

- Built between 1672 and 1695, it is the only surviving 17th-century military structure in the U.S..
- Constructed from coquina, a soft limestone made of cemented shells which allowed the walls to absorb cannonballs without cracking.
- It served as a vital outpost for the Spanish Empire, defending against pirates and British forces during colonial conflicts.
- Despite numerous attacks, the fort was never captured, changing hands only through treaties.
- It served as a prison for Early Americans (including Geronimo’s tribe). under Spanish rule the fort offered refuge for escaped slaves.
- Evolution of Rule: It transitioned from Spanish to British (1763–1783), back to Spanish, and finally to the United States in 1821

Sorry I can’t help myself but the above tower reminds me of beaker from the Muppets.

The parks are starting to show these 3D displays, I am a fan.
