ACORNS=BAD WINTER

Leann and I were on a day hike last fall in our local park. I commented on the number of acorns on the ground and this meant we were going to have a hard winner.

Looks like I was right, minus 9 and a lot of snow. The actual low was worse at minus 14.

Lots of snow, let’s ski. The first day we tried was not very successful. Plenty of snow but the ground had not frozen. Snow was sticking to our skis so you ended up hiking with skis stuck with a few pounds of wet snow. I gave up after about 100 yards, went back to the car and put on my hiking boots.

They are the only people I know that have a waterfall (real one) on their property.

My favorite type of skiing, single track through the woods with sunshine and blue skies

I hurt my wrist so I was off the skis for awhile and back in my hiking boots. There are YakTrax that wrap around your boots and are great for walking on packed snow and ice. Only problem, these totally fell apart on me during my hike today. I carried them back to the parking lot and tossed them in the trash.

You can tell it’s cold when I break out the black balaclava.

You know it’s cold when the snow sparkles.

The cold blast appears to be over. One thing for sure, I am over cold weather and snow.

HAPPY TRAILS, STEVE
