CRATER LAKE & REDWOODS

At this point we had a loose plan to visit all of the states. We had not been to the Pacific NW, so let’s go. Apparently Jenny had enough of parental hiking vacations and decided to stay home. We flew into Portland, headed North to Mount St. Helens, then South to Crater Lake, then SW to Redwoods. We completed the trip by following the coast back to Portland. What an awesome week. Julie & Jamie started the trip with the latest Harry Potter book. They would read a chapter and then discuss it, basically a mini book club.

At the visitor center for Mount St Helens.

Down to 3 girls for this trip: Jamie, Leann and Julie

I can’t imagine being anywhere near this when it exploded

Nice view of Mount Rainier, didn’t know at the time that a week long backpack trip to Rainier was in our future

Salt Creek Falls on the way to Crater Lake

Crater Lake on a spectacular day

We did a hike to a fire tower, the trail was in great shape but gained a lot of elevation

Awesome ridge section, great views on both sides

Redwoods National Park, Jurassic Park anyone?

We spent a lot of time looking up

Oregon coast, not exactly swimming weather

Leann on the coast, sounds like a TV show

HAPPY TRAILS, STEVE
